I ate here twice and the first time was decent. However the 2nd time was really weird. No one was in the place and on top of that the rolls I ordered didnt taste as good as last time. I wouldnt go back to them. Just because I dont think they're serving fresh fish.

I can think of two words to summarize my experience with the Bento Box I ordered for lunch: "Verrrrrrry okay." Which is to say, the sushi smelled fine but tasted like rubbery air. My california roll was mushy and just not fresh. The miso soup was tasty. The two fried dumplings were also tasty, but very small. I didn't touch my salad because it was 100% iceberg lettuce and therefore why even bother, right? My co-worker had asked me what I ordered for lunch, and when I excitedly explained to her that I found a sushi lunch special for only $7.50, she wrinkled her nose: "Cheap...sushi?" You were right to be suspicious, Monica. This place is m-e-d-i-o-c-r-e...to the max.

The sushi was decent tasting, but the staff was rude. The whole place smelled like fish, and EVERY PLATE I ate off of was filthy on the bottom side. In fact the dish for soy sauce had old rice stuck to it. But the food itself was decent.

It was my first time at Iron Sushi and I would definitely go back. It wasn't amazing but it was no where near being a "bad" place to eat. The staff was very nice and portions were decent. The seaweed salad tasted fresh and the sushi was fresh as well. The free green tea was constantly refilled without having to ask. We ordered a side of spicy mayo expecting to pay for it but were pleasantly surprised to see it was free. The sushi combos are a great deal. Quiet ambiance and very open space. Would go back again.

The food is decent...plenty of special rolls to choose from. Their shrimp rock tempura was pretty decent. Shrimp could be bigger tho. The rolls were all pretty good. Service is above average..very attentive and they kept filling our water, which is always a plus.

Yelp defines two stars as "Meh. I've experienced better." I coudln't agree more with that. I ordered their chicken teriyaki bento for lunch. The chicken was mediocre--it had a weird consistency and the teriyaki sauce was very light on flavour and of a very low viscosity. The salad was just okay--the ginger dressing was a bit two sweet. The miso soup was great, as was the green tea ice cream I ordered for dessert. The Age Tofu wasn't very authentic, but I enjoyed it a lot. The brown rice was horrable. It wasn't Japanese-style at all (it seemed more like brown rice from a Latin-American restaurant)! Worst was the delivery guy. I had a $10 bill and a $1 bill in my pocked. I handed him the $1 and he said "That's not enough. Two dollar tip!". He actually stood there and demanded an extra dollar! With the variety of Japanese places in the area, I'd skip this one and try somewhere else. (I have heard from a friend that their sushi is great)

Wow, this is your top of the line take out sushi. I ordered chirashi, the ultimate test for sushi restaurants (along with sashimi), and Iron Sushi passed! With chirashi, its just the fish - you cannot hide behind a blanket of seaweed and rice, or other ingredients. If the fish is fresh, its there right before your eyes. So Iron Sushi had fresh fish - yelpers you did not fail me! With the chirashi: 3 hamachi, 3 tuna, 3 salmon, 3 white fish, 2 tako, 2 kani, 2 giant red clam pcs, 2 tamago, 2 takuan, and some flying fish eggs sprinkled on the rice. And there you have it! p.s. you can substitute brown rice for white rice.

This place is just okay. The rolls have too much rice and not enough fish. My eel and avocado roll barely had any eel in it. Theres a lot of competition in the neighborhood for a place that's just okay.

Located in a clean and attractive neighborhood, this place is an easy destination for some basic sushi or americanized Japanese food. I like it. Simple and fresh. The staff is friendly. The sake and prices are not too shabby either. I topped off my last visit with some green tea ice cream. Delicious. An easy access for a quick bite to eat or cozy night with a group of friends. I will most likely be returning.

This place always has fresh sushi and inventive rolls (they just added more to their menu!) Best friend Bates and I are suckers for the snow crab roll (try it with a little eel sauce!) If you get lucky you just might see the nice old man (owner?) singing his karaoke greats in a faux falsetto voice. It's hysterical and very entertaining. Request Don't Stop Believin' or Bon Jovi, those are favorites!

Moving to the city recently and being a die-hard sushi fan, service and prices don't get much better than Iron Sushi. Unlike some reviews I have read below, their prices at dinnertime can be a bit extensive, however the key to this place is going for lunch. You pay something like, $9+a measly tax, but for that nine dollars you get TWO [read-it] TWO sushi rolls from a vast selection of different types, a salad OVERFLOWING out of its container with ginger sauce to add at your own discretion, and then a half pint of soup with plenty of healthy seaweed to remind you why you love sushi so damn much. The owner is very professional and service is quick. Again, only drawbacks are dinner prices, but that's why you stick to lunch meals. Also, if you order for take-out be prepared of their $15 minimum charge. I suggest heading their with cash.

I'd say pretty decent sushi. I ordered sashmi regular ($18). The tuna and the white fish were tasty. I didn't enjoy the red clam or the octopus though. I also didn't particularly care for the little fried rolls they gave as an appetizer or the miso soup which was a bit to mealy for me. However to me, these are just ancillary to the main parts of the meal - the tuna, white fish, yellow tail, and salmon which were good. It's also a pretty good deal for the price. review 2/9/2008 I.M.Y.

I used to order in from then years ago, and it was great, stopped by tonight with a friend and it was the worst salad and rolls, i have ever eaten. Pass this place by.

I would give this place no stars if i could! This place is the worst!! I order a simple combo and they didn't get any of the order correct. When I asked for the missing food to be sent, they hung up on me and made me wait over an hour! Their food is mediocre at best and they are do rude and nasty!

You know how there are a million Irish bars in the city, and they all seem pretty much the same? Some are better than others, but because of what they are, they could ever stand out as a *great* place? Iron Sushi is the "better than average Irish bar" of sushi places - large roll selection, solid fish quality, stereotypical sushi bar decor, average service. Nothing you'd venture across town for, but pretty good if you're in the area.

  • Ma-e M.

i came back but it's not at the same location. this is the first iron sushi branch. the only difference were the store policy of minimum credit charge and the design of the restaurant. the upper east side of manhattan is nicer. the lunch special is reasonably priced and i liked my bento box chicken katsu w/o rice, just california roll is good enough for me but if it was my bf, he would appreciate a bowl of rice included.

My wife and I order in from Iron Sushi 3-4 times per month, and are never disappointed. The Banana Roll is our favorite. The delivery people are fast and friendly.

  • Ian C.

I want to give it 4-stars, but it's not quite there yet. They seem to have a pretty decent selection of sushi to choose from on the list. There are several different types of rolls. And the rolls I got from the 3-roll dinner set were big, tasty, and filling (i was actually afraid it wasn't enough for me). The bento boxes seemed worth it-- for $17 and you're getting a lot of stuff. So what's the problem? You really do get your money's worth. The food is pretty good. The beer is cheap (though I didn't order any). The decor seems nice. Staff- not bad, but not great either. it just needs something to stand out from other run-of-the-mill Japanese restaurants. Perhaps letting people choose their own dinner roll set? Or perhaps Sake Bombs? That sounds like fun. I can't do that at my local Japanese restaurant (though, I've never tried...)

yay! i'm a fan. says it perfectly. good prices, fast delivery and fine dining in option-give you a free springroll when you sit down. i like it enough for it to be my go to sushi spot in the neighbs.

Went on a Sunday night. It was busy, incredibly fast, very reasonably priced, and the sushi was excellent.

  • Karen E.

Pleasantly surprised. Got the sushi for 2 and everything very fresh and delicious. They even gave us a small complimentary spring rolls. Great way to start a meal off. I'll definitely visit again and quite possibly make this my sushi place.

  • RJ S.

The fish looked and tasted fresh (unlike the circa 1995 decor). If you stick with their non-specialty rolls, you could have a bargain sushi lunch, but if you venture to other parts of the menu you will rapidly find yourself looking at overpriced sushi rolls. Service was as fine, and I did enjoy the complementary eggroll appetizer. If you're in the area, Iron Sushi certainly isn't the worst sushi option you can find.

During a rare romp into NYC the other day, we happened upon this restaurant, which was recommended by someone who lives in the neighborhood. Though rather small, the restaurant delivered (well, figuratively speaking, though they might have actual delivery as well, I'm not sure). I got a special dish called "thousand layer sushi" - what a lovely combination of all my fresh fish faves such as salmon, tuna and scallops, with some spicy mayo, salmon roe and rice. Very smooth texture - melts in your mouth. They also had the most flavorful green tea I've ever had. My husband got their regular sushi though, which I thought was a bit bland, but very reasonably priced.

  • Ross W.

Surprisingly pleased with Iron Sushi. First they get points for serving a salmon skin salad, which is underrated and I highly suggested ordering (healthy too). Spider roll fresh and tasty. Overall good sushi, presentation nice. The restaurant is simple, the way a good sushi place should be. It's my new place to order from in the neighborhood, and visit as well.

I really just sat down because I couldn't justify the more expensive sushi place across the street when I was just planning to eat alone and read, but I was surprised at how pleasant the meal was. The edamame and miso soup were good enough (hard to mess up though), the spicy tuna roll was average at best, but the yellowtail jalapeno appetizer was fresh, beautiful and delicately delicious. All prices were completely reasonable, and they did serve complimentary spring rolls that were totally tasty. When I came in, the staff seemed busy and unimpressed with my interest in dining at their restaurant, but after distractedly seating me at the service end of a long empty bar (as in, the side where the cash register and all the servers pick up their food), I was treated with quick, extremely friendly service. The manager seemed to know every other customer by name, those dining in, and those taking out, and the chefs and servers checked in with me frequently. I wouldn't return unless I was in the neighborhood, but overall, I left full of fresh sushi. Which was, basically, the point.

This is my go-to neighborhood sushi place! They have the best price on lunch specials (sashimi bento for $7.50) and large selection of rolls. I order from here at least 1-2 times per week and am never disappointed. Delivery is usally pretty quick and you can order online which is definitely a plus. Enjoy!

My best friend used to live around the corner from this place back in '96. He was the one that turned me on to Sushi. Since then I have become a Sushi addict, and no matter what, I always love going back to Iron for lunch or dinner with friends. Service is great, the sushi is perfect. I've eaten at this place for 12 years now and not once has something upset my stomach. Good sign for a sushi place.

This is a great sushi place for non-fish-eating vegetarians. There is a large variety of vegetarian rolls with unique combos. The price is very good. There is a location uptown too.

My brother and his friend stumbled on this place about 2 years ago and it has become our No. 1 sushi place. They have so many different types of rolls with different combinations of ingredients. Each special roll comes with 8-10 pieces and they put large chucks of fresh fish on each one. We have our regular rolls down pact and leave this place full of deliciousness. My friend and I celebrated our Bday here this past year. After our meal they hooked us up with a desert platter of ice cream and cooked bananas for 12 people. The staff is awesome and grateful to return customers.

Good neighborhood spot. Nothing breathtaking, but consistently good stuff at good prices. A little addicted to the volcano special roll - it's a meal for $10 and (bonus for the indecisive) it's two different rolls in one - spicy tuna and kani salad! Service and delivery are both usually really fast.

I've lived nearly across the street from Iron Sushi for 4yrs now. Its my favorite sushi in the area. Its always fresh, fast and delicious. It's reasonably priced and the portions are usually a good size. The Philadelphia rolls are the best I've ever had!

    (4)
  • lisa S.

Definitely the best sushi in the Murray Hill area. Ambience is not too bad (because Japanese restaurants have the tendency to have poor lighting and little to no ambience) and the delivery is fast. The fish is resh, the menu is extensive and they give you little spring rolls before your meal.

    (4)
  • Christina N.

solid neighborhood sushi. i didn't give it more stars because it is very run of the mill, no really out of the ordinary rolls. but the price is right. big selection of rolls (including vegetarian ones) and they are prepared well. the bento boxes leave something to be desired but a good sushi experience.

BEWARE!!! The sushi was good but the service could have been way better. The first host took my friend and I's order while talking on the phone and after taking our drink order, she stepped outside and then came back with my beverage. She brought me a glass of ice and the cup was so filthy, I than asked for another glass and that glass as well was disgusting. After taking our food order again while being on the phone, the next host brought out our food and then went MIA for 20 minutes. When we were about to leave, the host kept pointing out that the bill did not include gratuity and demanded that we give her a tip. Before leaving she explains to us that after eating in the restaurant for so long she deserved a tip, which was beyond rude. Why give some a tip for such terrible service... DEFINITELY WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN!

Is $5 for the avocado tempura roll a tad outrageous for a vegetarian roll? Sure. Do I think sushi restaurants everywhere should start serving it? Dear god, absolutely! The yaki tori lunch special ($9) is $1 less than the regular-sized entree but comes with either miso soup or salad. It felt a little expensive for how small the container was, but if you aren't overly concerned with value, it's the perfect portion size for a not-too-filling lunch. While I am only a desk-chained delivery customer, I give Iron Sushi four stars for their inventive sushi flavors, varied entrée options (for when I want something more filling), a reasonable delivery minimum, and their willingness to deliver tempura ice cream (although I have yet to try, because I would honestly be too devastated if it got to me all melted)

This is about the take-out, but I still think it's a good basis to the judge the food. I've ordered from here twice, and both times the sushi is consistent, fresh, and good. They offer a huge menu of rolls, and it's all reasonably priced. Any sushi you could dream up, they have it, as well as a long list of cooked items. My go tos are the tuna avocado (add the crunch, it adds a bit of texture!) and the AAC. Avocado, Asparagus, and Cucumber. It's like a salad in the roll. I also liked the Kim Chee soup - I am a fan of Kim Chee and it isn't that spicy. Only downside is that I think it may have been a bit salty (or it may have been the soy sauce.. note to self, ask for low sodium next time). All in all, good stand-by sushi delivery.

Why I made the decision to come here I'll never know... It was close . It was sort of empty and the lady at the desk was also my server. Not too friendly and she seemed annoyed. I ordered a water and a tea. It took almost 5 minutes to get because she decided to take care of adjusting her credit tips first. When I asked for sugar for my tea she got really annoyed and threw her hands up lol. I guess that was the wrong request. The sushi was pretty good but now I see why they are empty with zero people, zero music and zero manners.

I stumbled in here because it was the closet restaurant I saw and I was starving. I should have been tipped off by the fact that it was empty. The only other people in the restaurant were the waiters and delivery people lounging around in the back. It took forever to get anyone's attention and order because they were too busy talking to each other. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and what I received was the saddest, driest piece of cardboard I've ever eaten. I could probably make better chicken in the microwave. If this is my punishment for not yelping an establishment first-- well, lesson learned.

I find I agree with most all of the positives I've read in the reviews here, and feel I came in on the right night! Fresh beautiful food, just as desired, reasonable portions & prices. Very friendly Sammy took great care of me, answered my questions & even offered a few "bless yous" offering tissues to aid my unexpected sneeze attack. Thank you Sammy & Iron Sushi! I'll be back!

Just ordered the chicken udon lunch special. I think they should rename this dish 'dog food delight', though I'm not completely certain a dog would even eat it. In the spirit of fairness, it came with a salad which was pretty good. Never again.

Good Sushi, the worst service I have ever received in NYC. I ordered from Iron Sushi on seamless for lunch at work. When the delivery person arrived he screamed into the phone that the delivery was here. I went to the lobby to get it where he started yelling at me in Chinese. I asked him what the problem was, which he could not articulate to me. He finally threw, and I literally mean THREW the bag of sushi at me (which contained hot soup, by the way). When I called the restaurant to complain, I was accosted a second time and given a half assed "Sorry". I will never order from them again. Sushi places in midtown are a dime a dozen. I could go two doors down and get the same quality with a better attitude.

gross spicy tuna roll. had two pieces and threw out the rest of the roll. waste of $6. The tuna taste like a tuna paste it was all mush i was eating that turned my stomach. Absolutley not fresh. Look on Seamless for more reviews. Wish i looked before i ordered :(

Pretty confused about this place, don't think it's very Japanese. I got the spicy seafood nabe, it was just an OK. The nabe was almost equivalent as the seafood tofu casserole in most Chinese places. Also, it was not spicy at all.

Iron Sushi Bistro. Aren't bistros a French thing? But uh, I know it really doesn't matter. I ordered two rolls for lunch from Iron, a banana tempura and spicy tuna and a shrimp, avocado, salmon, and fish roe. It was nice to have the funky option of banana tempura, but the rolls were no better or worse than any other take-out sushi establishment. All the fish was fresh, all the rice was rice? There's not much to say here, another "is what it is," sushi restaurant in midtown.

    (3)
  • Ray L.

Definitely will be back!!! Great portions and from the first bite I noticed how fresh the sushi was. I got a shrimp tempura and spicy tuna roll and can honestly say not one thing was wrong with it. Staff was friendly and helpful and the overall restaurant has a nice, calm atmosphere. Well worth your money, I would recommend. :)

Iron Sushi Bistro is a pleasant surprise. I would have never figured that sushi of any sort would be fresh at all, especially at such a remote location, or quieter part of the city. When you get there, the majority of the orders appear to be for take out, rather than dine-in, which I myself have to lay claim to. Chicken Curry ($12) - Served with Soup or Salad, White or Brown Rice. I was very surprised at how delicious this dish was. Some may argue that it is your typical borderline yellow Japanese curry that you could come to expect from the instant variation, but in a good way. The chicken was tender and did a good job soaking up some of the flavors of the curry. And don't forget to mix the curry with the brown rice... Mmmmm, mmmmm delicious!! Maybe this brought back memories of making instant S&B Golden Curry in college, but for some reason, I was really loving it! Deluxe Sashimi ($21) - 18 pcs. of assorted raw fish including salmon, tuna, yellowtail and a few others. All of the raw fish were very fresh, all sliced with accurate and consistent thickness. The silky smooth texture was spot on, making for a very surprisingly and good sashimi dish. Chicken Teriyaki ($12) - Served with Soup or Salad, White or Brown Rice. There was a plentiful amount of quasi-grilled chicken along with thinly sliced onions sauteed to softness. Although the teriyaki sauce did help a little, I found the chicken turned out to be predominantly tough, dry and flavorless. Iron Sushi Bistro did not disappoint at all. Some dishes turned out to be better than I I was expecting for the location that it's in. But to the other end of the spectrum, you won't leave bedazzled. It will satisfy your Japanese food craving. But to what ends? I'll let you be the judge of that.

Places really need to indicate that their spicy rolls are just mashed up spicy mayo + fish + nasty deep fried soggy tempura filler. Why is it so hard to find a place that DOESN'T put the nasty soggy filler fried stuff in their spicy rolls?? I like the type that is actual diced fish with spicy sauce. That's it. I mean, its one thing when the "crunchy" is actually crunchy, but when its soggy? Gross. If you couldn't tell that I was disappointed, well, I was disappointed. The rolls were more "crunchy" (aka soggy) than they were "fishy". DON'T ORDER SPICY ROLLS HERE!!! At least the uni tasted decent, otherwise I would've given one star.

Yummm.....now that was one tasty box! I had to lick my fingers clean after going down on this one! Being that it is a nice afternoon today I decided to go find a new box to munch on during lunch hour. There are so many boxes to choose from in NYC, but you have to find the right ones to eat! I found myself walking by Iron Suchi and jumped all over that. Place is nice and clean. Decor is on the fun side with nice tables and booths, and sushi bar as you walk in. Staff was very friendly - smiles and hello's all around. I liked that right off the bat. Bento Box lunch special here will run you $7.50. Add a soda in and the whole meal was $10.00. Not bad at all. I must say that what was revealed to me was one heck of a big box! Wow. I chose the salmon - cooked just right with fresh veggies and a tasty teriyaki sauce on it, but not engulfing the fish totally. Fresh salad with ginger dressing, white rice just right, decent fried dumplings, and a really nice sized California roll. Big bowl of miso soup started out this large meal. Time to munch! Full and content, I walked out knowing that I just ate another flavorful box, and more are to be found in my ongoing search.

I always order take out and their sushi is delicious. Their service however is just ok. They have forgotten spicy mayo or siracha but then always send someone to deliver it. If you're looking for decent sushi at a decent price, this is your place.

I would leave "0" stars if I could, but it's not an option. I get delivery from Iron Sushi on average about twice a week for the past three years. After today's experience, I will NEVER order from them again. I have no qualms with the food. It's average sushi. The food has never failed me. But the f*ing DELIVERY GUY. WTF. He gave me the worst and the biggest stank face I have ever gotten in my life because he had to sit in our nicely air conditioned lobby while I came downstairs to pick up my order. Our building doesn't allow delivery guys to come up to our apartment or leave the food with the doorman. He just sat with his f*ing legs crossed and refused to interaction with me. Just sat there. I was like, "Um... Iron Sushi delivery?" Silence. "Hello?" Silence. "Okay.... Do I need to sign for this?" Silence. Just sat there with a f*ing stank face. There are too many sushi places in the Murray Hill/Kips Bay area to order from. I don't think I need to endure such RUDENESS from a deliver guy.

I have never had such an appalling dining experience before. I ordered the beef Japanese curry. What came instead was BROTH with some bits of boiled beef in it. At first, I was so confused that I thought they had given me an entirely different dish altogether. After speaking to the staff, they informed me that what I had WAS the curry and that "maybe they had put too much coconut broth in it." Who do you have working in your kitchens? I'm sure there are tons of internet recipes out there for Japanese curry - you can even buy the instant curry cubes that they sell in supermarkets! Japanese curry should in no way have the consistency of - I kid you not - water. Absolutely disgusting and a total rip off. I don't think I should even have had to pay for this meal. I paid for an order of curry, NOT soupy, watery broth. I will not be eating or ordering from here again and I absolutely do not recommend anyone else doing the same.

It's Okay...it was cheap, decent and quick. Great lunch deal...I got 2 rolls , miso soup, salad and some hot tea for 9.95$. The shrimp tempura roll was very good, so was the peanut avocado roll. I didnt like you couldnt change anything, I couldnt leave out avocado on my shrimp roll, and you couldn't leave off sauce....I think maybe the waitress didnt understand me though. I was trying to make my sushi healthy.....so it was kind of annoying. The fish didnt seem all that fresh, and the last 3 booths in the back were taken up by members of the staff literally sleeping in the booths. Nice atmosphere. I wouldnt come back, but it was okay for that day.

We tried their beef sukiyaki and chicken katsu don. Both dishes were fine. The food isn't super authentic, but you can't expect much more for the price. The service was a bit slow, but the staff was nice. Overall, it's a decent neighborhood spot.

It was good. I am not a big sushi person, but it wasn't bad. In Toronto though, Im used to getting much more in my Bento boxes...bigger portions, etc. that being said this was only $7.50... The japanese salad dressing though wasn't nearly as good as I usually have at other places, but aside from that it was a solid meal. Cheap. Nothing to write home about, but good stuff.

You will not see Chef Morimoto working behind the sushi bar at Iron Sushi. Despite it's lack of a superstar chef, Iron Sushi is not lacking for service. You will immediately notice how well stocked the dining room is with servers and waitstaff in their long dining room. In fact, my party was given a nice free spring roll appetizer after we were seated which was a bit surprising because this is a Japanese restaurant, but we appreciated the gesture anyway. Now for the sushi quality. I have always felt that Chinese run sushi restaurants tend to loosely pack their sushi, and again this was confirmed by Iron Sushi's sushi chefs. This is not to say that the quality of the fish wasn't good because it was and very fresh. I had a sashimi entree and with some rolls and felt that the addition of surf clams which was sliced in half in my sashimi entree was filler material. However, every other selection impressed mainly with their freshness not by their craftmanship. The only negatives here are the smaller sashimi pieces and for the maki rolls, the loose packing and the fact that nearly every roll is a dollar more than its competition in the neighborhood. Another negative is that the hijiki appetizer was not as sweet as most places, which may be a plus for those of you counting calories. All in all, a nice sushi joint, but I like my sushi tightly packed. Nice try though but go when the other sushi joints are filled in Murray Hill. This place is like a good second-string quarterback.

For readers looking for SUSHI and not Japanese cuisine, this is your review. The word "sushi" is in the title - so for those disappointed in the curry, I don't feel sorry for you. The sushi here is fantastic, and it's all well-priced. I've ordered delivery and dined in for years, and I always find the food to be fresh and delicious. Try any of the rolls that have snow crab, and you won't be dissapointed!

I didn't want to do this, Iron Sushi. Really. You're one of a very *very* small number of restaurants who make Japanese style curry AND deliver. Unfortunately, the problems I've encountered prevent me from giving you anything more than two stars. To start with, the curry is $13, and isn't a large amount of food. I'd be somewhat ok with that fact if the curry was good. It's not! My first clue was the massive hunks of onion. Onion is the base of the curry. You simmer the onions for an hour or so, until the volume is reduced and they've sufficiently caramelized. There shouldn't be massive slices unless you started from a box mix and added them after the fact. That's fine, if you do it I'm not judging you, just don't expect me to happily pay $13 for it. Along the same lines, the beef and peppers seemed to be added well after the rest of the curry had been cooked. The beef was mostly tough and mostly flavorless. The peppers were clearly just thrown on top of the rest of the curry, and were quite crunchy, which in a way, ended up being a nice textural change, but I'm not giving you points for something you did out of laziness! All that aside, I wouldn't give you two stars just for mediocre curry, because your sushi is surprisingly good, and would normally bring you up to a three star rating. I'm giving you two stars because your delivery failed TWICE! When I first brought my food upstairs, I opened the bag to find the curry container had opened in transit and was coating the entire bottom of the bag. I called you, and after several incredulous questions to which you knew I would have no answer or were simply ridiculous(Me: The food spilled inside the bag. Her: The food is in the bag? Me(internally): Yes. I'm calling because my food is in the bag. I just wanted to let you know it got here. Mission accomplished! Me: ....it spilled. Inside the bag. Her: how did it happen? Me(internally): ask your delivery man, boob Me:.....I think you're asking the wrong person. It was like this...when I got it.), you asked if you could make another. Have it there fifteen minutes, you tell me. It's 7:25 at this point. At 8:15, the same delivery man shows up, sheepish grin on his face. Sorry, he says. Extra staples, he says. What do you think happened when I opened the bag this time, Tetsu no Sushi? THE SAME EXACT THING! Just kidding. IT WAS EVEN WORSE! The curry container was completely empty. Its contents were entirely in the bottom of the bag. A bag which promptly ripped open at the bottom when I moved it from the kitchen counter. Don't worry, I noticed the tiny bits of masking tape you put around the container, probably as a joke. Next time, just put the curry in a SOUP CONTAINER, because it's A LIQUID. As for you, delivery guy, wipe that grin off your face. I know you damn well felt the curry sloshing around in the bottom. You didn't think to yourself, gee this feels awfully wet. Gee this bag is warm all over, as opposed to just the small portion actually touching the container. GEE I WONDER IF MORE STAPLES IN THE BAG DID ANYTHING TANGIBLE. Of course, in noting that your sushi is pretty good, I bet you're thinking I'll order again, and just stick to the sushi. To which I retort: ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? ...check back with me in two weeks. It's too soon right now.

I got the chirashi lunch special here. It was just ok. There were some standards: tuna, white fish, salmon, tamago, crab stick, but then i had some octopus and squid legs or something. I found that a bit odd for a chirashi but its ok, i like octopus. I've had better chirashis so most likely... i will not order from here again... not that its bad... i've just had better in the same hood.

They have really great lunch specials and there is ALWAYS a seat for me. The miso soup is not the best, but the chicken katsu is good as is the teriyaki salmon. Service is prompt. There hours are also longer than Nobi across the street and I typically eat a late lunch.

I ordered a chicken katsu bento box for lunch. My coworker ordered a sushi bento box. The chicken was cold, dry & bland. The carrot dressing was chunky. The white rice had a weird plastic-like taste to it.

If I could give this place a Zero star review that would happen. I just received my order, via seamless, I ordered a Bento Box. The delivery did NOT come with Soy Sauce or Salad dressing - CMON two of the most necessary items for my meal to be complete - SOY SAUCE AND SALAD DRESSING! To pour gasoline on the fire, I called and asked them to deliver the 2 items - and the women who answered the phone - flat out said no, but did offer me extra soy sauce on my next order! Thats great, BUT THERE WILL BE NO NEXT TIME.

Sushi is ok and delivery is fast.Wouldn't recommend any of the Udon noodles entrees. Not the best sushi in NYC, not the worst. Reliable for a quick lunch.

average japanese place... ordered: tempura sushi roll, katsu dinner special, tempura dinner special the good: the sushi & tempura were standard tasting. interesting that they added shumai to the special, since that's Chinese. bathroom was very clean. the bad: the service was average, and we sat in the back but we constantly smelt cigarette smoke. the tempura, while tasting good, was too oily. the ugly: the miso was so watered down it was offending. the katsu was not tasty at all. bottom line. i would give this place one more try to have their sushi, since my wife does not eat raw fish. however, if wanting japanese food in midtown, i would suggest to go elsewhere.

Friends were craving sushi so we randomly stopped here while we were walking in the neighborhood for something quick and small. There are some good deals here, but overall I would say the price is a little bit high. My sashimi salad was $9... they did give me quite a bit of sashimi though... but I still felt dissatisfied. Then I got the seaweed salad, and it was still just whatevers... and my bill came out to be $18!!! WTH?!?! Oh, they have free green tea here. My friend got some sort of rice dish, and it looked like there was tons of rice in it. But her salmon roll looked pretty salmon-y, and they didn't try to jip you with a bunch of rice... probably cuz it all went into that rice plate. The service is a bit slow, I'm not sure if I would come back here, it didn't really wow me out of all the other places. The ambiance was nice though, it was quiet and clean and intimate. There was another sushi place right across the street...my issue mostly was with the bill, but I guess that wouldn't really change anywhere else in the neighborhood. maybe I'll check that other sushi place out next time!

    - ridiculously reasonable pricing - expansive selection of creative maki rolls - assorted dinner rolls = approx. $13 for 3 rolls + soup or salad - interesting manager to say the least, he broke out a guitar randomly and started singing with some people a

I ordered this for delivery and here are all the things that went wrong: -Food was delivered over 45 minutes later -There were fish bones in the sushi -The sushi was not fresh at all -The sushi fell apart when you tried to pick it up We ordered 4 rolls and could only stomach 1 roll and just threw the rest out. My recommendation is to try another place in the area.

I will not be turning to Iron Sushi again to satisfy my Japanese cravings. I ordered delivery from here a couple wks ago and at their leisure, they sent sushi that tasted very off.

I recently returned to Iron Sushi after a year in Los Angeles. A year in which it's become very clear to me that Iron Sushi is completely irreplaceable. I've dearly missed singing along to Eddie Money with the owner, Dennis, while waiting for an order of impeccably fresh, generously portioned sushi rolls. This is the kind of place that makes living in New York City great.

I rarely write bad reviews but felt very compelled to because i don't want other people getting screwed by this shady business. Absolutely terrible delivery service! I used seamlessweb to make the order and, the restaurant LIED about their delivery time. They brought it 1+ hour later (even after i prepaid a good tip). i called several times & they wouldn't pick up and when i did get someone, the lady said they there's nothing they can do and that they were too busy to get it here on time. Obviously they don't care about keeping their word. Don't lie about your delivery times. The food was mediocre when it finally came. I should have read yelp before i ordered from them because there are many other reviewers who complained about dishonest delivery times.

I straggled in drunk, 25 minutes before they closed. It was right next to my friend's apartment They didn't give me a hard time. I had cali roll and yellow tail and two pieces of Toro shashimi was fresh and $7 a piece!! I normally pay $10-14. Decor was plain. The STAFF was so nice, always checking to see if everything was ok but not hovering. The men making the rolls were talking to us as they passed our table.

This is a nice neighborhood sushi restaurant. I don't think anyone is making this a destination restaurant, but there's nothing wrong with it. The main dining room is in the back of the restaurant. Looking at the color scheme of the dining room, I'm guessing the owner is a University of Florida Gator. The sushi was good. They had a page of special rolls. I didn't really order off of it since it got a little pricey, but the regular sushi rolls were pretty good. Two standouts were the volcano and the dynamite roll. Also, the shrimp and mango roll was surprisingly good. The sweetness of the mango was subtle but it worked. Not too pricey and a nice experience. I'd come back.

I will give it a zero if I could. The service was good but the sushi was very bad. The fish didn't taste fresh and they didn't put the correct ingredients in the roll I ordered. Overall not a good first experience

I had their Maki lunch over the weekend. At $8.50, its a great deal. (Many rolls to chose from.) Its not the best sushi in the world, and not the worst either. But paired with a cold $4 Sapporo, it (er, anything) tastes great...

I like this place. For the prices you can't beat it. I love the manager Dennis. He is a character and a half when he comes over singing. Yes you can request it. He does a mean Michael Jackson Impersonation. I like the crab and mango roll.

  • Amber B.

Unimpressed. The sushi is ok. Nothing spectacular, and not any cheaper for lunch than most places in the area. I typically do pick up, ordering through seamless web, and it's never-ever-ever ready on time (even when I call to be sure- I've only got 40 minutes for lunch, people!). I've tried it three times- I'm over it.

It looks super cute from the outside and I can tell it's a local favorite, so I decided to give it a try. When I walk in, the owner who mumbles he isn't the owner and who wouldn't even look at me in the eyes immediately questions if I am Chinese/Japanese/Korean? Wtf? Umm, very socially awkward, to say the least. So I ask him if he's Chinese, and he nods wordlessly. Even. Ok so I debate over some of the sushi choices like whether to get the bento dinner box or the sushi appetizers and how they're different. I'm the type of curious diner who asks a million questions and then decides on the glaringly self-explanatory item. Anyway, after a few questions I get a sense that he is not willing to really oblige me anymore. So I go with the regular sushi meal - with 7 pieces of sushi (I requested no shrimp/crab, while crossing my fingers he understood that I am deathly allergic to shellfish) and 1 tuna roll. What did I get? I got a sashimi platter with salmon rolls. All of which are fine, but nothing that I ordered. The salad too, is lame. It's all lettuce with one sorry looking cherry tomato. Skip. Next? With so many sushi/Asian choices in this area of town, why walk in somewhere with unfriendly owner who takes the locals for granted and who doesn't even get me the food I ordered?

The sushi tasted fresh and yummy, however ambiance was terrible. We sat by the window, where out front they had their sidewalk cellar door open with a Caution sign with flies swarming. A man that worked there (not sure if owner or who..) kept going directly outside the restaurant, coughing and smoking..it really made the experience not enjoyable. I don't think we will be returning!

Ordered my dinner from Iron Sushi last night to the office. I had the Tiger Roll and the Dynomite roll and both tasted really great. My coworker raves about their various locations, so I think this will be the new office favorite. Haven't tried their other rolls or entree's, but hopefully those taste great as well. Prices are cheap. Delivery took 45 min.

I hate to sound like a broken record with the other reviews but I agree that this place was just okay. Not terrible certainly, but also not nom nom delicioso. Their lunch bento boxes are great - cheap and easy with a salad that actually tastes pretty good. I liked the miso soup, not too salty and as a main I took a risk and ordered something not having a clue what it actually was: Oshi-Zushi. It's described as 8 pieces of Tuna, salmon, eel, avocado & mayo snow crab compressed on sushi rice. Interesting right? I liked the ingredients so I thought "what the hell!" and went with it. I actually liked the result - one piece is like a big rectangle of rice with eel, avo, tuna and white fish piled across like a rainbow roll and then buried inside the big chunk of rice was a crab/mayo mix. Despite their label of "snow crab" it was definitely "artificial crab" but lucky for them I'm a weirdo and really like artificial crab (this is a whole other story but I used to buy costco sized packs of the stuff and eat it like potato chips..gross I know). Delivery was fast. Though perhaps delivery takes away some of the fun of sushi since I've never had great sushi delivery. One note: while the ginger was good, the wasabi was neon green and had the texture of play-doh ... I wouldn't touch the stuff.

Being a sushi snob, I would have to say the sushi is average here. Nothing spectacular stood out. With that being said, soup and rolls are tasty and you get your money's worth. The bento box comes with soup, salad, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura, shumai, California roll, rice, AND a main entree.

Food is chinese style, especially the curry. I didn't get the sushi but if you're looking for true japanese food, this is NOT a place to go. too expensive for crap curry

I come here because it's in my neighborhood and also for their HEMPTON ROLL and SPICE GIRL ROLL. nothing else. maybe shrimp and asparagus roll sometimes. but those first two rolls are amazing and to die for. everything else they have is mediocre. but dooooooo try them, they're deliciously flavorful and decent price, decent portion. don't get their chicken teriyaki and etc etc. not great. just expensive.

  • Pierre S.

Not impressed at all. The rolls were bland yet very filling (too much). Quantity before Taste. Not bad per se but would not recommend. One good point: Not expensive.

A solid three-star effort for food and price. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be inclined to make this spot a regular; however, as a tourist in this part of town, I'll probably not be back. Gigantic Bento box, with all the fried fixings, was $17. Yowza.

I had a very good experience at Iron Sushi. We ordered a variety of rolls and everything was excellent and service was good as well. The place is reasonably priced. True its not a high end sushi place but for the money its well worth it.
